Proverbs 19, 20
In our reading today we have a warning of the effect of ceasing to hear the the instructions of the Lord. Proverbs 19:27 in the New Living Translation says, “ If you stop listening to instruction, my child, you will turn your back on knowledge.” We as believers must constantly seek to be instructed by the Lord by hearing the word being preached, and reading His word. It is a spiritual maintenance necessity. Our relationship with God must be maintained by good spiritual habits of prayer, reading the word and attending a local church weekly. If not our spiritual life will suffer. Let us not cease to hear the instruction of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 3
In our reading today we have the contrast between the glory of the Old Covenant and the glory of the New Covenant (2 Corinthians 3:7-11). The giving of the Mosaic Law on Mt. Sinai was eye popping, the whole mountain appeared on fire and the whole mountain quaked (Exodus 20:18). When Moses received the Law his face shone with the glory of God (2 Corinthians 3:7; Exodus 34:29-35). Paul then goes on to write by the Spirit of God that the glory of the Old Covenant was nothing compared to the glory of the New Covenant (2 Corinthians 3:8-10). As we yield to the Spirit of God in obedience we are changed into the image of Jesus and from one level of glory to another by the Spirit of God (2 Corinthians 3:18). A glory far surpassing the glory of the Old Covenant.
