Proverbs 11, 12
In our reading today we have a few verses that flow with our New Testament reading. Proverbs 11:5, 6 “The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness. 11:6 The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.” In these two verses it describes two things that righteousness will do for the believer. It will direct our way and it will deliver us. But it is not our own righteousness, it is the righteousness of God by faith in Jesus Christ. Romans 3:21, 22 “But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:” Saints, the righteousness of God will direct our way away from wickedness and deliver us from ungodliness.
1 Corinthians 15:33-58
In our reading today we have a strong exhortation from the Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul. 1 Corinthians 15:34 [Classic Amplified] “Awake [from your drunken stupor and return] to sober sense and your right minds, and sin no more. For some of you have not the knowledge of God [you are utterly and willfully and disgracefully ignorant, and continue to be so, lacking the sense of God’s presence and all true knowledge of Him]. I say this to your shame.]” This verse describes believers who are in a mindset comparable to a drunken stuper. Sin is a normal part of their lives, they are ignorant of what the Scripture really says and their mantra is I am just a sinner saved by grace. No you’re not! You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21). The Holy Spirit is saying here Awake to that righteousness! Wake up to who you really are it will empower you to stop sinning. That is blunt but that its what it says.
