1 Corinthians 10:1-13
We all know what temptation is like. It’s a wrong desire that pulls, draws, attracts us away from our loving, obedient, dependency on God. Temptation entices us to please ourselves or to rely on ourselves rather than pleasing or relying upon God. Sin has a pull for our unregenerate flesh (soul and body), but our spirit, made righteous in Christ, is drawn to the holiness and grace of God. From our spirit, we choose if we will yield to the spirit or the flesh. Here are a few things to know about overcoming temptation: 1) God will allow the tempting or testing, but He will never be the one drawing us toward sin (see James 1:13-14). 2) We can’t overcome temptation in our own strength. The Holy Spirit is our helper. 3) Instead of simply trying to deny our flesh, we need to feed ourselves spiritually. When we are spiritually active, we won’t give into the desires of the body and soul. Remember, God is on our side, and we have authority over sin, our flesh, and Satan. We are overcomers!
Psalm 139 – 141
Today we read about our worth and design in Psalm 139. We also read Psalm 140 and 141 about requests for deliverance from evil people that don’t value our worth and wish to harm us. As we travel through this world, let’s remember to find our identity in God, not people, especially those who are struggling with their own, unsaved or saved.
