Mark 4:1-20

Jesus tells the story of the sower, the purpose for parables, and the explanation of the sower.

In the Amplified version of Mark 4:24 says, “The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue (power) and knowledge] that comes back to you.” If our heart is like soil, meditating on the Bible is a way of saturating ourselves with the truth of God’s Word. The more we give ourselves to taking in the Scripture, allowing it to become a part of us, the more of God’s power and knowledge is available to us. The Word will change us!

To read more commentary, see notes on January 19 (Matthew 13).

Numbers 5-6

In chapter 5, the Lord gives instruction to Moses on isolating the unclean person, confession and restitution, and unfaithful wives. In chapter 6, the Lord gives Moses the law for the Nazarite, and gives the priestly blessing.

Nazarite is a noun form of the verb “to separate.” A Nazarite was someone who would set himself set apart for the Lord for a specific time. This temporary Nazarite is unlike Samson, a lifelong commitment to serve the Lord.
