“Where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20
If we want to know the glory of God’s manifested presence, we must live in and operate by the love of God. If we expect to know God in a greater measure, then we must become mature in His love. To experience the glory of God, it requires that we position ourselves in a yielded oneness with God and His people through love. Unity is a prerequisite to the anointing.
Matthew 18:19 says, “I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.” The Greek word for “agree” is sumphoneo from sum “together” and phoneo “to sound.” Sumphoneo means “to sound together, be in accord, be in harmony.” When Jesus said that if we agree on earth concerning anything that we ask, the meaning goes beyond praying to include walking in unity and love. Where there is unity, the presence of God is manifested. When the anointing of His glory is present, we can have what we ask for in accordance to His will for us.
The Bible says that disunity can cause the Holy Spirit to be grieved and to withdraw. The anointing is worth guarding. It takes effort to keep unity in a local church. We know that division is a sign of spiritual immaturity, so those of us who are mature should seek to preserve unity at all cost. We know that disunity is a tactic of Satan, and we who are spiritually aware, must come against the spirit that tries to get his foot in the door of our relationships. If a person refuses to be corrected, the Bible says that they should be avoided so that the anointing of God is preserved. We should crave the Lord’s presence and make every effort to prepare a place for His glory.
Application: We should continually check our heart attitudes towards others to assure that we are not causing division in the body of Christ. The anointing of God is in the balance.
