“for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” Romans 14:17
One of the fruits of the spirit Paul mentions is peace. Peace is not just an absence of anxiety or fear. Peace is a word used to describe being complete, fulfilled, or satisfied. Because you are complete, there is no reason to be anxious or to strive. Whatever your need, you have confidence that God has you under His care. However He chooses to fill our need, we can consider it done. This is peace.
Just like any other fruit of the spirit, we can’t take the credit for walking in peace when it is the Holy Spirit that provides the ability to have it. Our part is to surrender to the Holy Spirit and receive the peace He has to give. His supernatural peace will overtake any lack or anxiety in our minds or our hearts. Whatever is happening in the natural, we can have assurance the Holy Spirit is working in the supernatural. Whatever knowledge is presenting itself for a current situation, the Holy Spirit will give us a spiritual understanding. We just need to trust and yield to Him. Philippians 4:7 “…the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
The supernatural peace from the Holy Spirit transcends any kind of human peace, human solutions, and human resources. It is a natural tendency for a human being to want to be in control and to be self-sufficient. It is natural for a person to want to be responsible to handle our lives, fix our problems, and manage our own homes. However, God is looking for the opposite of self-sufficiency; God is looking for faith, which is looking to God to be our sufficiency. Supernatural peace comes from letting go of our control, management, administration and strategy for our lives, yielding to the management and plans of the Lord. We are to roll over our cares on the Lord, and let Him pick them up and care over our concerns. He will let us know what He wants us to do, and He will do what only He can do. Faith is a super, supernatural way of living – a lifestyle of peace. Isaiah 26:3 (Amplified) “You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You.” Peace has a supernatural guarding quality, a characteristic that causes us to respond in the spirit instead of reacting in our flesh. Let go and let God.
Application: Without peace, our attempts to resolve issues can be scattered. God’s peace will pull us together and keep us from reacting in the flesh. If you are feeling scattered, stop what you are doing, and ask God to give you peace and focus for what you are facing.
