The nine manifestations, or gifts, of the Holy Spirit listed in I Corinthians 12 are supernatural and are distributed as the Holy Spirit wills. If you are willing, He could choose to use you in any of the nine depending on what the Holy Spirit wants to do in the situation. We must be ready and open to be used in whatever way the Holy Spirit wants to move. To help learn them and know them, we sometimes divide them into three categories – Revelation, Power, and Proclamation. The three in the category of power manifestations are faith, gifts of healings, and the working of miracles.
FAITH
Faith is something every Christian has; however, there is a supernatural faith the Holy Spirit may choose to manifest in us when we are in situations that require His strength.
GIFTS OF HEALING
Here the Greek word charisma is used for gifts, a specific empowerment for a specific purpose. In I Corinthians 12:9, the words for gift and for healing is plural, meaning all sorts of healings for all types of ailments.
WORKING OF MIRACLES
The working of miracles is another supernatural manifestation of power that brings about a physical change to natural circumstances. For example, someone being raised from the dead is a miracle. Someone’s spine coming into alignment is a miracle. Multiplication can be supernatural like when Jesus fed the five thousand or when Peter brought in the two boats of fish.
For many of us, it isn’t difficult to imagine Jesus ministering miracles, healing the sick, and operating in faith; but we must remember that Jesus said we would do these works and greater works (John 14:12). The purpose for these demonstrations is to show the world that there is a God who cares about them and is willing and able to supernaturally meet our needs. The only way we could ever operate in these gifts is by the anointing of the Holy Spirit; therefore we always point people to the Lord and the salvation He wants all of us to experience. We are the hands and feet of Jesus, and every believer is able to go and do what He did. Believe God to use YOU in the power gifts!
Application: The Holy Spirit will use you when you reach out to show His love for someone else. He wants His power to flow through you.
