“I will never leave you, nor forsake you…” Hebrews 13:5
There is only one you, and when you are loved, no one else could ever take your place. When we try to understand the love of God, we try to compare His love to the love on earth. King Solomon compared God’s love to the love between a man and a woman in the Bible book, Song of Solomon. In this book, we see a love between two people that cannot be satisfied until they are together; it reminds me of how much God loves us as individuals. This is what I take from the book:
You are worth pursuing. Because you are loved, you are worth pursuing. There is no other person who could be a substitute for you; only you will do. You’re special. True love will come after you, not once, but continually. God continually expresses His love towards us. It isn’t distracted. It’s creative. It’s fresh. It never loses its fervency. It seeks a response, and it will not stop until it receives one.
You are worth holding onto. Because you are loved, God holds onto you and will not let you go. If something tries to pull you apart from God, He will fight for you with everything within Him. With all of His heart, His resources, His ability, His strength, God will keep you by His side. True love doesn’t let go. God showed us the ultimate sacrifice by giving His son, as a ransom for our sin. If God loved us enough to send Jesus to the cross, then there is nothing that can separate us from His love.
You are worth reconciling with. A failing human love might convey that losing you is not important. If you lose a human relationship, you may feel that you weren’t desirable enough or you didn’t perform well enough. A person could feel rejected, forgotten or abandoned by human love, but God will never stop pursuing you. Whatever you do, wherever you go, however you act – you will not be able to discourage God from coming after you. He will never forget you. He will never leave you. You are the apple of His eye, you are the object of His affection. He will always do what He can to win your heart and receive you back to Himself.
God doesn’t pursue us without a purpose. God wants us to receive His love and to have a loving, close relationship with Him everyday. God is willing to do whatever it takes to see our love overcome obstacles and grow into a depth of maturity. There is no love like God’s love!
Application: Sometimes we run from love. We resist love because of a fear of being rejected, a fear of being hurt, or a fear of being used. God is not violent with us. He is gentle. He knocks on the door of our heart, waiting to be invited in. Trust Him, and allow Him show you His true love.
