Proverbs 17, 18
In our reading today we have two powerful witnesses that exhort us to control what comes out of our mouth. Proverbs 18:20, 21 “A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall be be filled. 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” We as believers who understand the power of our words must speak what God’s words say. 1 Timothy 6:12 declares “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” That Greek word translated “profession” is “homologeō” and it means “to say the same thing”. The same thing as who? The same thing as God’s word. Speaking words of life and victory are part of the good fight of faith.
2 Corinthians 2
In our reading today I want to focus on 2 Corinthians 2:14, but I want to look at it in the Classic Amplified Translation: “But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph [as trophies of Christ’s victory] and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere,” This should be our confession, that God who is always leading me to triumph in every circumstance. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead, dwells in me (Ephesians 1:19, 20), “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,” I believe that is enough power.
