Proverbs 21, 22
In our reading today is a warning about thorns and snares. Proverbs 22:5 [American Standard Version] “Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse: He that keepeth his soul shall be far from them.” Thorns and snares are also characteristic of spiritually lazy individuals (Proverbs 24:30, 31). He that keeps his soul shall be far from them. Remember our reading from Sunday? The last part of Proverbs 16:17 says, “…he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.” We must be diligent to keep thorns and snares out of our life because they will prevent us from bearing fruit (Matthew 13:22).
2 Corinthians 4
In our reading today we have another exhortation on speaking the right things. 2 Corinthians 4:13 “We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak.” Biblical faith requires we say the same thing as what God and His Word say. A perfect example is when Israel was about to go into the Promised Land. The LORD told Moses to send men to search it out and he said plainly, “the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel” (Numbers 13:2). In the next series of verses notice the words that come out of the mouths of two different groups. One group Joshua and Caleb who believed what God said and spoke with a spirit of faith (Numbers 14:6-9), and the ten other spies who did not (Numbers 13:26-29, 31-33). Lets be like Joshua and Caleb who believed what God said and said the same thing. Let us speak with a spirit of faith.
