Wisdom and Seasons

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5

Knowledge is a gift from God, and so is wisdom. Knowledge will tell us what we need to know, and wisdom will show us the way we’re to do it.

I’ve seen some people despise wisdom because they see wisdom as being contrary faith because faith will believe for the impossible. To that I say, God is both a God of faith and of wisdom. He is not a God of foolishness. Sometimes faith and foolishness are hard to distinguish, and for that, we have the Holy Spirit, our human spirit, and the Word of God. The Lord will use these things to help us to know the difference.

A life of faith is a life of miracles, which can be filled with adventure, mystery, and excitement. Some live for the thrill of the supernatural; however, without wisdom, people have gotten themselves into trouble. Wisdom will help you build something lasting, help you to deal with people and situations with excellence, and keep you alive, no matter how great the story may sound or the “likes” you may get on social media.

Some want to be led by their heart (spirit) so they despise their head, but remember, God gave you that head; it’s a good gift when it’s renewed to God’s way of thinking. Also, wisdom can also be very supernatural, revealed by the Spirit of God to help us.

Faith is a reliance on God that operates according to God’s will. Foolishness is a reliance on self and acts outside of God’s will. Some may start their season with wisdom; however, it is easy to get off track along the way when stop leaning on God and start leaning on ourselves.

In order to navigate our seasons well, we need God’s wisdom. We need His leading and His expertise. Using wisdom doesn’t mean that life is a fairytale where everything goes perfectly, but it does mean that we follow God so that His will is accomplished, in the way God wants to do it. People may not always agree with your decisions, but wisdom will determine to be a God-pleaser, not a man-pleaser.

Furthermore, be aware that there is an earthly, worldly wisdom that might go against God’s heavenly wisdom. We live in the world, with its earthy values, but we belong to God’s kingdom that operates according to God’s principles. We need to be careful not to get the two confused. If we want to be blessed, then we want to do things God’s way.

Application: I encourage you to read Proverbs to see the importance of wisdom and its application.
